About Position/Job

The University of Vienna is offering a University Assistant (Postdoctoral) position in South-Eastern European History within the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed PhD in History with a focus on South-Eastern Europe
  • Knowledge of at least two modern South-Eastern European languages (one non-Slavic)
  • Knowledge of two historical/source languages (e.g., Church Slavonic, Byzantine Greek, Latin, Old Romanian, Ottoman Turkish)
  • Academic publications in peer-reviewed venues
  • Teaching capability at the university level
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in palaeography or manuscript studies
  • Record of independent research project development
  • Experience applying for third-party research funding
  • Academic event organisation experience
