University of Vienna is seeking a University Assistant Postdoctoral researcher in Zoology / Biology to join the Wanninger Lab, focusing on Invertebrate Evolution. This fully funded six-year postdoctoral position, starting around May 2026, offers an exceptional opportunity to work on comparative morphology, evolutionary developmental biology (EvoDevo), and phylogenomics. The successful candidate will engage with diverse non-model aquatic invertebrates, particularly mollusks, integrating molecular, morphological, and -omics approaches. The position involves developing independent research projects, publishing in international journals, and collaborating with a dynamic international team. The role also includes teaching opportunities and supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s students, contributing to the department’s academic mission. Based in Vienna, Austria, this role offers access to state-of-the-art laboratories, imaging facilities, animal care units, and high-performance computing resources, making it a unique platform for advancing evolutionary biology research on spiralian taxa.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Biology or related discipline
- Strong interest in working with non-model aquatic invertebrates
- Experience in designing research projects and scientific writing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Postdoctoral research experience
- Skills in molecular, morphological, or computational evolutionary biology techniques
- Interest in independent research and teaching
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and conduct independent research in collaboration with the PI and lab members
- Draft, write, and publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals
- Present research at international conferences and workshops
- Supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s students
- Contribute to curriculum development and departmental teaching
- Participate in evaluation measures and quality assurance activities
