About Position/Job
The University of Bergen (UiB) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Religious Studies within the Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion. This position is part of the RADHEART project – Radical Habits of the Heart, an ERC Consolidator Grant led by Professor Laura Feldt, and focuses on strong individual commitment in ancient Rabbinic Judaism from the 2nd to 7th century CE. The three-year funded post, starting January 2027 or earlier, offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment analysing emotions, embodiment, and religious commitment. The successful candidate will collaborate internationally, engage with archival texts and philological methods, participate in conferences, and contribute to NARRATIVE work-package objectives. This role aligns closely with the department’s mission to advance scholarship on the ancient world through innovative methodologies and collaborative research.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in the study of religion, religious studies, history of religion, or closely related field
- Doctoral dissertation submitted for evaluation by the closing date
- Competence in ancient Jewish studies and Rabbinic Hebrew/Aramaic
- Strong written and oral English skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications:
- Publications in relevant fields
- Teaching or coursework experience in the study of religion
- Demonstrated interest in comparative religion and interdisciplinary research
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute an independent research project contributing to RADHEART
- Publish scientific works and present research at conferences
- Participate in public talks and workshops
- Contribute to project planning, events, and co-edit scholarly publications
- Collaborate closely with PI Professor Laura Feldt and research team
