Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF), Spain, invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Researcher (Type 1) position in Archaeology within the research line “Data Management for South American Heritage.” This position is linked to the internationally funded project MAPHSA – Mapping the Archaeological Pre-Columbian Heritage of South America, supported by the Arcadia Fund and led by Professor Marco Madella within the CASEs (Culture, Archaeology and Socio-Ecological Dynamics) research group.
Based in Barcelona, Spain, the postdoctoral researcher will focus on phytolith extraction and analysis, archaeobotanical data interpretation, and the management of heritage-related datasets from South America. The role combines laboratory research, data analysis, outreach activities, and potential fieldwork, providing a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of archaeology, heritage science, and digital data management. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology
- Proven experience in phytolith analysis
- Research background in South American archaeology and archaeobotany
- Excellent knowledge of English, Spanish, and Portuguese
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in heritage outreach and dissemination
- Skills in website and social media management
- Willingness to participate in fieldwork activities
Key Responsibilities
- Extraction and documentation of phytoliths from archaeological samples
- Analysis of phytolith data and preparation of technical reports
- Contribution to archaeological databases for South American heritage
