About the Position
GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences invites applications for a fully funded Postdoctoral Researcher position in Dendroclimatology and Dendroecology at the Department “Geosystems”, Section 4.6 Geomorphology, located in Potsdam, Germany. This exciting academic opportunity focuses on tree-ring-based climate analysis, eco-hydrological monitoring, and environmental risk assessment, contributing to international research initiatives in climate impact studies and sustainable management of green spaces.
The successful candidate will collaborate within the ArboKlim project and the TERENO environmental observatory network, undertaking independent research using field campaigns, tree-ring analysis (width, isotopes, wood anatomy, chemistry), and high-frequency environmental datasets. Access to advanced laboratory and field research facilities, as well as guidance from experienced researchers, ensures a productive environment for high-impact publications and professional development.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related disciplines and demonstrate strong expertise in dendrochronology, eco-hydrology, and quantitative data analysis. Preferred skills include Python or MATLAB programming, time-series analysis, multivariate statistics, signal processing, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Excellent written and spoken English is required, while German language proficiency and a valid driving licence are advantageous.
This is a full-time, fully funded postdoctoral position for 2 years, starting preferably 15 April 2026, offering competitive salary in salary group 13 (TVöD Bund, Ost). Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
