About the Position
The National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) invites applications for a funded Postdoctoral Researcher position in Geographical Information System (GIS) at the Laboratory of Palaeontology, Evolution, Paleoecosystems, and Paleoprimatology (PALEVOPRIM), Poitiers, France. This position focuses on integrating morphological and spatial data of fossil hominins from Sterkfontein (South Africa). Moreover, it contributes to international research initiatives in Anthropology, History, and Environmental Science, supporting the “Looking for Human Origins in Southern Africa” (LHOSA) project. The successful candidate will:
- Establish a GIS-integrated database combining diverse biological and spatial data.
- Generate detailed graphical illustrations of fossil distribution.
- Develop and apply qualitative and quantitative statistical analyses to test hypotheses on hominin diachronic variation and taxonomic heterogeneity.
- Present results to the research group, laboratory, and at international conferences.
- Prepare high-quality scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals.
The postdoctoral researcher will work at PALEVOPRIM (UMR 7262, University of Poitiers & CNRS) and collaborate closely with Dominic Stratford, director of the Sterkfontein research team and member of the LHOSA project (University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa). Additionally, they will join the research group led by Amélie Beaudet, dedicated to studying the biology of fossil hominins from southern Africa. Team members are expected to attend bi-monthly meetings, actively contribute to research activities, and present their work at international conferences.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Archaeology or Palaeontology and demonstrate expertise in three-dimensional GIS, spatial analyses, and quantitative palaeontological data assessment. Furthermore, preferred skills include statistical testing, bioinformatics, palaeontological dataset interpretation, advanced mapping software proficiency, and collaborative problem-solving. Excellent written and verbal English communication, attention to detail, and initiative are essential for success in this international, multidisciplinary research environment.
