About Position/Job
University of Galway invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate position within the School of Geography, Archaeology, and Celtic Studies. This position is funded by the Marine Institute for a 12-month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the project lead on the research project titled “Baseline Study of Marine Mollusc Shell Ultrastructure by Micro-CT 3D Imaging”. The role focuses on examining marine mollusc shell morphology and condition using high-resolution Micro-CT imaging for specimens collected from Irish waters across different physicochemical conditions.
This project is significant as it establishes a baseline for tracking climate change impacts, including ocean acidification and rising seawater temperatures, on marine mollusc shells. The position supports the department’s goals in environmental and marine research and includes advanced imaging, interdisciplinary collaboration, and potential international data comparisons, offering a unique opportunity for academic and applied research in marine science.
