About the Position
The University of Lancashire invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant specializing in stable isotope analysis in archaeology. This role is part of the Wellcome Career Development Grant project led by Dr Brenna Hassett, titled “Tracing Diseases of Contact at the End of Human Mobility”, which investigates human mobility using trace isotopic data from human remains in the Central Anatolian plateau. The position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in archaeology and anthropology, develop innovative laboratory methods, and contribute to high-impact publications. The successful candidate will work at the University of Lancashire while collaborating closely with laboratory facilities in Türkiye and participating in excavation projects, providing both fieldwork and laboratory experience. Research Area
- Stable isotope analysis of archaeological materials (Sr, Pb, C, N, O, S)

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field
- Doctoral-level experience in isotope analysis of human remains or archaeological material
- Strong written communication and publication record
- Ability to work independently and manage projects
- Willingness to travel to Türkiye for field and lab research
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience analyzing dental enamel or human remains
- Knowledge of the regional isoscape or prehistoric Anatolian periods
- Mass spectrometry expertise
- Teamwork and prior collaborative research experience
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement methods for radiogenic and heavy isotope analysis
- Collaborate with laboratory facilities at Koç University, Türkiye
