About the Position
The National Museums Liverpool (NML) invites applications for the position of Project Assistant Curator (History & Archaeology) to support the International Slavery Museum (ISM) redevelopment project. This full-time, hybrid post offers an opportunity to engage with world-class collections and contribute to innovative research and public interpretation on the history, archaeology, and legacies of transatlantic slavery. Reporting to the Project Curator (History & Archaeology), the successful candidate will help shape the museum’s new galleries, develop interpretive content, and contribute to community engagement initiatives. This role is ideal for emerging professionals passionate about museum curation, historical research, and socially conscious storytelling.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Degree in History, Archaeology, Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Demonstrated research skills in historical or archaeological subjects.
- Experience writing interpretive materials such as object labels and exhibition text.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with sensitivity to issues surrounding racial history and heritage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in museum or gallery interpretation.
- Familiarity with collections management systems and community-engagement projects.
- Awareness of the legacies of slavery and colonialism in museum contexts.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research on history, archaeology, and legacies of slavery.
- Contribute to the design and interpretation of the International Slavery Museum redevelopment.
- Liaise with curators, designers, and contractors to shape exhibitions.
- Write interpretive content including object descriptions and labels.
- Engage with local and international communities through events and outreach.
- Support collections management, acquisitions, and loans.
- Uphold NML’s values of inclusion, respect, and representation in all work.
