About the Position

The Department of Humanities at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) invites applications for a Project Manager role in the research line “Data Management for South American Heritage.” This is a unique opportunity to join the internationally recognised MAPHSA project (Mapping the Archaeological Pre-Columbian Heritage of South America), funded by the Arcadia Fund and led by Prof. Marco Madella.

The position is based within the CASEs (Culture, Archaeology and Socio-Ecological Dynamics) research group and the Centre for Digital Humanities at UPF in Barcelona, Spain. The selected candidate will coordinate international research activities, manage archaeological datasets and fieldwork, and contribute to a dynamic, interdisciplinary team dedicated to safeguarding South America’s endangered heritage. The role offers a contract ranging from 1 to 4 years, depending on project funding.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Archaeology, History, or related discipline
  • Experience in spatial analysis of archaeological data
  • Proficiency in English, Portuguese, and Spanish

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in South American archaeology
  • Fieldwork and remote sensing experience
  • Use of ArcGIS, QGIS, or GRASS
  • Experience with ecological datasets
  • Ability to organise training and academic events
  • Willingness to contribute to teaching (up to 30 hours/year)
  • Willingness to learn Catalan (within 2 years if required for teaching)

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate project activities and partners
  • Manage archaeological data and integrate outputs
  • Lead remote sensing analysis in Brazil/Colombia
  • Organise workshops, fieldwork, and training events
  • Oversee project deliverables and budgetary reports
  • Support research development alongside the Principal Investigator
  • Assist in university-level teaching when required
