About Position/Job

The University of Reading is seeking a highly skilled Quaternary Scientific Senior Project Manager to join the School of Archaeology, Geography & Environmental Science. This full-time, permanent role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and manage archaeological science research projects within the Quaternary Science team. The successful candidate will oversee fieldwork, laboratory analyses, and specialist reporting, while supervising technical staff and managing geoarchaeology and palaeoenvironmental laboratories.

The position combines academic and developer-funded research, contributing to project delivery, income generation, and the production of high-quality publications. Candidates should have specialist expertise in archaeobotanical analysis, such as pollen, plant macrofossils, or phytoliths, with additional knowledge of geoarchaeological processes and deposit modelling being desirable.   • Experience interpreting data, compiling reports, and supervising staff
  • Ability to work cooperatively and flexibly to achieve objectives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Broad knowledge of geoarchaeological processes and deposit modelling
  • Experience contributing to academic publications
  • Previous experience managing laboratories or research teams
  • Familiarity with teaching and student placements
