About Position/Job

Philipps University Marburg, founded in 1527, is seeking a Research Assistant (part-time, 50%) in Classical Archaeology at the Department of History and Cultural Studies. Under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Winfried Held, the role focuses on teaching within the BA and MA programmes in Archaeological Sciences and Classical Archaeology. The department, established in 1877, has a rich academic tradition and offers students access to unique resources, including the renowned Collection of Antiquities and Casts. With international collaborations, fieldwork projects in Turkey and Lebanon, and participation in interdisciplinary research initiatives such as the Marburg Centre for the Ancient World (MCAW) and DAAD-Taziz projects, this position provides a stimulating academic environment. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed scientific university degree (Master’s or equivalent)
  • Outstanding doctorate in Classical Archaeology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience in Classical Archaeology
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks in collection maintenance and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Ability to work in international academic projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching 8 semester hours per week in BA and MA Archaeology programmes
  • Contribution to research in Classical Archaeology
  • Collaboration in the Marburg Centre for Ancient World (MCAW)
  • Support in the maintenance of collections (Antiquities, Casts, Photo Library)
