Research Assistant/Associate Position in Geophysics at Kiel University, Germany – Apply by 1 November 2025

About Position/Job

The Institute of Geosciences at Christian-Albrechts University of Kiel invites applications for a Research Assistant / Research Associate position on the project “3D Inversion and Thermal Modeling of the Levant Basin”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). This part-time (75%) position runs until 31 December 2028 and offers the opportunity to pursue a PhD in geosciences. The successful candidate will integrate geophysical data and structural information into a 3D thermal model of the Levant Basin, combining forward modelling, statistical inversion approaches, and novel magnetic vector data. Under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Jörg Ebbing, the role involves geophysical signal analysis, programming in Python and/or Matlab, and computational modelling. This position provides exposure to advanced geophysical methods, interdisciplinary collaboration, and research in the eastern Mediterranean region, contributing significantly to the department’s goals in computational geosciences and thermal modelling.
