About Position/Job
The University of Manchester, a world-leading research institution, invites applications for a Research Associate in Early Modern Global History within the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures. This 21-month fixed-term, full-time postdoctoral position is part of the ERC-selected, UKRI-funded INTRECCI project led by Professor Edmond Smith. The project explores the institutional transformation and interconnected commercial cultures of international trade, 1450–1750, offering a comparative and global approach to the origins of capitalism, globalisation, and European economic dominance. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of scholars, contributing to pioneering historical research and international academic collaboration. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in History or related discipline
- Strong research experience in Early Modern Global History
- Ability to work collaboratively in a research team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with comparative or transnational history approaches
- Engagement with economic or institutional history
- Prior publications in peer-reviewed journals
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research for the INTRECCI project
- Analyse historical sources related to global trade and institutional transformation
- Work closely with the project team and contribute to publications
- Present research findings at conferences and seminars
