About the Position
The University of York invites applications for a fully funded Research Associate position in Human Osteoarchaeology at the Department of Archaeology, located in York, United Kingdom. This prestigious role is part of the UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship project Age-Old Stories: Increasing the Visibility of Older Adults Past and Present, applying scientific and humanities approaches to study older adults (45+ years) in prehistoric and Roman communities across Europe (c. 8000 BC – AD 400).
The successful candidate will work closely with Dr Lindsey Büster and the wider interdisciplinary team, undertaking advanced osteological ageing techniques, palaeopathological analysis, and biomolecular investigations. Access to museum collections, archaeological datasets, and collaborative partners ensures a productive environment for publications, public engagement, and conference dissemination.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Human Osteoarchaeology or demonstrate equivalent experience, with strong knowledge of palaeopathology, osteological ageing methods (e.g., Transition Analysis), and experience producing publication-standard scientific reports. The position requires excellent teamwork, independent initiative, and professional communication skills.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Human Osteoarchaeology or equivalent experience
