About the Position
The University of Southampton invites applications for a Research Fellow in Arts and Humanities within the MarEA Project (Maritime Endangered Archaeology in the Middle East and North Africa). This collaborative initiative—led by Southampton and Ulster University in partnership with the University of Oxford—aims to document and preserve maritime archaeology across the MENA region. The role offers an exciting opportunity to work with an international team using remote sensing, GIS, and field research to protect coastal heritage. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD or equivalent experience in Archaeology, Cultural Studies, or related field
- Proven experience in the MENA region
- Strong GIS and remote sensing skills
- Excellent organisational and communication abilities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in coastal or maritime archaeology
- Ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary international teams
- Flexibility for travel and fieldwork
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct remote sensing research and analyse archaeological data across the MENA region
- Participate in ground surveys and training programmes in partner countries
- Support project deliverables and contribute to academic publications
- Collaborate with international teams to achieve project outcomes
