About Position/Job
The University of Leeds is inviting applications for a Research Fellow in Global Conservation to join the Sustainability Research Institute. This role focuses on assessing the impact of European conservation and sustainability initiatives on global biodiversity, carbon stocks, and socio-economic outcomes. The position is funded through the UKRI JUSTLANZ project, supporting a just transition to Net Zero in the UK livestock sector, and the EU-funded SafeNet project, which focuses on conserving biodiversity and carbon-rich forest ecosystems across Europe. Supervised by Associate Professor David Williams, the 25-month post offers opportunities for hybrid working on campus in Leeds. The role involves interdisciplinary methods, combining quantitative and qualitative analyses, land use and economic modelling, and international collaboration. It aligns closely with the university’s goals of promoting sustainable development and impactful environmental research.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Conservation, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related field
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Experience in interdisciplinary research
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with land use, trade, and economic modelling
- Familiarity with UKRI or EU-funded research projects
- Collaborative research experience with international teams
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the impact of European conservation and sustainability initiatives on biodiversity and carbon stocks
- Integrate quantitative and qualitative analyses to evaluate local and global impacts
- Work closely with project teams under JUSTLANZ and SafeNet initiatives
- Collaborate with RSPB, LUKE, and other international research partners
- Contribute to publications, presentations, and policy-relevant reports
