About the Position

The University of Tours is seeking a Research Fellow in Historical and Cultural Source Analysis to join the Centre for Advanced Renaissance Studies (CESR) as part of the prestigious Horizon Europe PlaceMUS XR project. This full-time, 22-month fellowship focuses on the intersection of musicology, cultural heritage, and digital humanities. Based at RicercarLab, the university’s renowned musicology research programme, the successful candidate will collaborate with European partners to explore musical heritage mediation tools, cultural itineraries, and user engagement practices. Supervised by Dr Camilla Cavicchi, this role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to an interdisciplinary international research network dedicated to preserving and innovating within European musical heritage.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Musicology, Museography, or a related field
  • Proven knowledge of heritage documentation and cultural mediation
  • Excellent written and spoken English (C1/C2 level)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with digital content management or digital humanities tools
  • Familiarity with data collection methods such as surveys and interviews
  • Competence with software like Excel, Zotero, and collaborative platforms
  • Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Interest in European musical culture and interdisciplinary research

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, catalogue, and analyse musical and heritage resources, including archives, iconography, and recordings
  • Document and develop cultural itineraries and user interaction scenarios
  • Assist in user research through interviews, questionnaires, and field observations
  • Manage and update digital databases and collaborative project tools
  • Contribute to reports, exhibitions, and academic publications
  • Collaborate with designers and engineers in developing interactive heritage tools
