Research Officer Position in Indigenous and Environmental Histories at Australian National University, Canberra

About the Position

The Australian National University (ANU) invites applications for a Research Officer position within the ARC Centre of Excellence for Indigenous and Environmental Histories and Futures (CIEHF), part of the College of Asia and the Pacific. This part-time, continuing role (4 days/week) offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research integrating Indigenous and Western knowledge to explore Australia’s long-term environmental histories and near-term futures. The successful candidate will work closely with Indigenous communities, leading researchers, and partner organisations to support field-based research, data collection, and analysis. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Higher degree (Masters or PhD) or equivalent experience in relevant research fields
  • Experience in field-based research, survey design, and data analysis
  • Proficiency in MS Office and information management systems
  • Commitment to working with Indigenous communities in Australia

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in palaeoecology, ecology, or geography
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills
  • Experience in multi-institutional, collaborative research

Key Responsibilities

  • Support CIEHF research projects through fieldwork and data management
  • Analyse and report research findings
  • Collaborate with Indigenous communities and research partners
  • Contribute to publications, presentations, and Centre activities
  • Maintain records and project documentation
