About the Position

The Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), through the Centre d’Études Russes, Caucasiennes, Est-européennes et Centre-asiatique (CERCEC), invites applications for a Researcher (M/F) position in Contemporary Baltic History. This full-time, fixed-term role is part of the ANR Ex-Sov. Design project, “The Long Sorties of the Second World War in the Confines of the Soviet Union (1944–1991)”. Based in Paris, the researcher will develop and manage archival and oral history research in the Baltic countries (Lithuania and Latvia). The project seeks to understand post-war social, political, and cultural transformations across former Soviet territories. The position offers a stimulating environment within one of France’s most prestigious research institutions, fostering collaboration between historians, sociologists, and cultural scholars.

  • Contemporary Baltic and Eastern European history

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in History or related field
  • 1–4 years of postdoctoral research experience
  • Strong knowledge of 20th-century European history
  • Basic command of French (A2/B1)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Language proficiency: English (B2), Russian or German (B2), and Latvian or Lithuanian (C1)
  • Experience with cartography, data management, and archival research
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Experience in public dissemination and academic publishing

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork and collect oral and archival sources in the Baltic region
  • Develop and manage research protocols and documentation systems
  • Coordinate collaborations with archives, museums, universities, and associations
  • Analyse data, produce scholarly outputs, and disseminate findings
  • Participate in project events, conferences, and workshops
  • Contribute to scientific publications and digital archives
