About the Position
Uppsala University invites applications for a funded Researchers in Sediment Biogeochemistry position in marine biogeochemistry at the Department of Ecology and Genetics, located in Uppsala, Sweden. This research opportunity focuses on Baltic Sea sediment organic matter, carbon cycling, nutrient fluxes, and sediment–water interactions within limnology and marine ecosystem science. Moreover, the work contributes to international environmental research on carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus dynamics in aquatic sediments.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a leading limnology research programme, conducting independent analysis of sediment sampling datasets and biogeochemical measurements. In addition, the researcher will evaluate carbon emissions, identify organic phosphorus pools, and publish high-impact scientific results. Access to advanced environmental research infrastructure and expert supervision ensures strong development in sediment geomicrobiology and marine biogeochemistry research.
Applicants must hold a PhD in marine biogeochemistry or a closely related field, along with demonstrated expertise in sediment carbon and phosphorus quantification. Furthermore, strong experience in stoichiometry, sediment flux analysis, and peer-reviewed publications is required. Preferred skills include data evaluation, scientific writing, and project management abilities, combined with excellent English communication and interdisciplinary collaboration.
This is a full-time fixed-term researcher position for approximately one year, starting May 2026, offering a competitive salary under individual pay setting. Additionally, the role supports international research networking, publication opportunities, and academic career advancement in a globally recognised scientific environment.
