About the Position
The GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany, invites applications for a Scientific Researcher (f/m/x) in GNSS Remote Sensing within the Section 1.1 ‘Space Geodetic Techniques’ of the Department of Geodesy. Supervised by Prof. Dr. Jens Wickert, this three-year, full-time role focuses on developing and applying GNSS-based methods for atmosphere, ionosphere, and Earth surface remote sensing using ground-based geodetic observations. The position contributes to GFZ’s global mission to understand Earth’s dynamic systems and support sustainable planetary management. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Geodesy, Meteorology, Physics, Mathematics, or Geophysics
- Proven expertise in GNSS remote sensing using geodetic receivers
- Experience in Python and/or MATLAB under UNIX/Linux
- Strong publication record and proficiency in English
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with GNSS analysis software packages
- Success in third-party funding applications
- Supervisory experience with MSc or PhD students
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and test software for GNSS-based remote sensing
- Provide GNSS atmospheric data for GCOS/WMO systems
- Integrate data-driven methods like machine learning
- Lead and support collaborative international research projects
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
- Supervise graduate students and assist in proposal writing
