About the Position

Qatar Museums invites applications for the role of Senior Cultural Heritage Compliance Specialist to ensure compliance with state legislation and international heritage conventions. This position plays a crucial role in developing policies, monitoring tools, and guidelines to protect and manage Qatar’s cultural heritage. The role involves working closely with local and international stakeholders, drafting legislations, facilitating site registration, and ensuring adherence to standards set by UNESCO, ICROM, IUCN, ICOMOS, and ICOM. The specialist will contribute to preserving Qatar’s archaeological and heritage sites, support capacity building, and provide expert technical reviews, making a significant impact on safeguarding the nation’s cultural legacy.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in International Law, International Political Science, Cultural Diplomacy, or Heritage Management
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in government, semi-government, or international heritage governing bodies
  • Strong understanding of international conventions and treaties related to cultural heritage
  • Experience in heritage program planning and Qatari heritage/archaeology
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and reporting skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field with at least 2 years’ experience
  • Experience in drafting legislations and technical guidelines for heritage compliance

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft legislations, bylaws, and policies for heritage protection in Qatar
  • Classify and register heritage sites locally and internationally
  • Develop compliance guidelines with UNESCO and other heritage conventions
  • Monitor and safeguard cultural property during emergencies and disasters
  • Prepare technical and periodic reports for international governing bodies
  • Review disputed cases and arbitration related to cultural property
  • Administer policies for public-private partnerships in heritage management
  • Conduct capacity building and training in heritage protection
  • Set accreditation criteria for private museums and cultural institutions
  • Evaluate adaptive reuse requests for heritage activation projects
  • Oversee the movement and exchange of cultural property across Qatar
  • Develop conservation and preservation guidelines
