About the Position

Uppsala University invites applications for a temporary funded academic position as Senior Lecturer in Egyptology at the Department of Archaeology, Ancient History and Conservation, located in Uppsala, Sweden. This role focuses on Egyptology, Ancient Egyptian language studies, archaeology, cultural history, and material culture, contributing to international research in Ancient Studies and heritage scholarship.

The teaching responsibilities include course management, course administration, lectures, seminars, examinations, and supervision in Egyptology and in the basic year for the Bachelor’s programme in Archaeology and Ancient History (AAH). The holder is expected to be able to teach Old, Middle and Late Egyptian as well as cultural history and material culture.  In addition, collaboration with archaeology and ancient history researchers enhances interdisciplinary development and research output.

“Applicants must hold a PhD in Egyptology or equivalent qualification. They must also demonstrate teaching experience in higher education. Additionally, strong English teaching ability is essential, while pedagogical training and collaboration skills are highly valued. This is a 75% part-time temporary position (2025–2027), offering structured academic engagement, research exposure, and career development opportunities.

Eligibility Criteria

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Egyptology or related field

Preferred Qualifications:
