About the Position
The University of Vienna invites applications for a University Assistant (Predoctoral) position within the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies, focusing on Byzantine Art History. Starting 15 January 2026, this part-time (30 hours/week) position offers an exceptional opportunity to pursue doctoral research in Byzantine and Georgian art, exploring visual culture, iconography, and stylistic evolution in the Middle Ages. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s or Diploma in Byzantine Art History or a closely related field
- Experience in academic writing and research methods
- Excellent command of English (C1 level)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of an additional foreign language
- Familiarity with Georgian art and cultural studies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting research and contributing to projects in Byzantine and Georgian art history
- Completing a dissertation agreement within 12–18 months
- Teaching undergraduate courses independently
- Performing administrative duties in research and teaching
- Collaborating with an international team of scholars
