About the Fellowship

The University of Strasbourg Institute for Advanced Study (USIAS) offers fully funded fellowships to support original, high-impact research across all scientific disciplines. USIAS provides a stimulating environment where researchers can engage with experts at Strasbourg, access unique research facilities, and pursue innovative projects. Fellowships range from three months to two years, enabling scholars to explore new domains, collaborate on interdisciplinary projects, and contribute to the university’s intellectual life. Open to international researchers, USIAS fellowships promote cross-disciplinary exchange and foster globally relevant research. Exceptional candidates at assistant professor level or above, as well as Strasbourg-based researchers with permanent positions, are encouraged to apply, including joint proposals for up to two applicants.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • External applicants: Assistant professor level (tenure-track) or equivalent, permanent post
  • Internal applicants: Permanent Strasbourg position (maître de conférences or chargé de recherche or equivalent)
  • Emeritus professors may apply
  • Non-permanent positions, including postdocs, are not eligible
  • Candidates may apply for two consecutive years with preselection; must wait one year after two attempts or failed preselection

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven research excellence, originality, and potential for collaboration
  • Interdisciplinary research experience

Not Eligible:

  • Applicants without a permanent academic position
  • Applicants exceeding consecutive application limits or ineligible due to prior USIAS fellowship
