About the Position
Banaras Hindu University (BHU), an Institution of National Importance, is inviting applications for the position of Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in a prestigious University of Cambridge-sponsored project titled “Mapping Archaeological Heritage in South Asia – MAHSA (Phase-2).”
This is an exciting opportunity for early-career researchers to work on cutting-edge digital heritage mapping and archaeological research in South Asia. The role offers a competitive fellowship of ₹90,000 per month plus HRA, and the project is sanctioned until 30 June 2029 (the post itself is sanctioned for three years only). This research post aligns with the Department of AIHC & Archaeology’s commitment to excellence in archaeological fieldwork, heritage documentation, and interdisciplinary research.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in AIHC & Archaeology with specialization in Archaeology
- Minimum of three excavation seasons (certificate proof required)
- Experience in Digital Heritage Data Recording
- Proficiency in tools like QGIS and AI applications in archaeology
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in the Archaeology of the Ganga Valley
- Familiarity with ceramic classification and archaeological mapping
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead archaeological excavations and surveys
- Digitally document and analyze heritage data
- Utilize QGIS, AI, and other tools for mapping and documentation
- Publish findings in academic reports and journals
- Collaborate with research teams from BHU and the University of Cambridge
