Fellowship Details
- Position: MIF Research Fellowship
- Institution: Host institution of applicant’s choice in Japan (universities, national research institutions, or private research facilities)
- Location: Japan (city varies according to host institution)
- Research Field: Natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and related disciplines
- Type: Full-time Fellowship
- Duration: Approximately six months between June 2026 and March 2027
- Start Date: Flexible within the fellowship period, as indicated by applicant
- Funding/Compensation:
- Monthly allowance of JPY 220,000 for living and research expenses
- Arrival fund of JPY 120,000 for initial costs
- Round-trip economy airfare to and from Japan
- Overseas travel insurance with medical coverage
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Minimum Requirements:
- Must hold a Ph.D. (Doctoral Degree) at the time of application
- Age 45 or younger (born in or after 1980)
- Non-Japanese nationality with no prior or current stay in Japan except short visits (tourism, conferences)
- Sufficient proficiency in English or Japanese
- Must secure acceptance from a host institution in Japan before applying
- Employment in home country and commitment to return after fellowship
- Empathy with the core values of MIF
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong research proposal developed in collaboration with host professor in Japan
- Academic achievements relevant to the proposed research
