About the Programme

The University of Stavanger (UiS) invites applications for a fully funded PhD Fellowship in History Didactics within the Faculty of Arts and Education, Department of Cultural Studies and Languages. This position offers promising researchers the opportunity to pursue academic development through a structured PhD education leading to a doctoral degree. The programme includes relevant coursework, independent research, participation in national and international research environments, academic communication, a trial lecture, and a public defence. The appointed candidate will be affiliated with the Future Pasts Group and may also engage with other research environments at UiS, such as The Greenhouse Center for Environmental Humanities, the Sustainability Didactics Workshop, or Democracy and Citizenship: Participatory Research and Inclusive Education (DEMCI).

Duration: 3 years (research duties exclusively) or 4 years (research and career-promoting work)
Funding: Fully funded; annual salary of NOK 575,400 gross, with salary development according to seniority in the position. A 2% contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund is deducted from the salary.
Working Hours: Full-time
Required Degree/Diploma: Master’s degree (3+2) in history, history didactics, or a corresponding field, preferably acquired recently.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Master’s degree (or equivalent) in history, history didactics, or a corresponding field.
Grade for the master’s thesis and the weighted average grade of the master’s degree must individually be equivalent to or better than a B grade.
Good proficiency in English, documented by a valid test certificate (TOEFL, IELTS, CAE/CPE, or PTE Academic), unless exempted.

Preferred Qualifications:

Research experience
Strong academic record
Work experience from teaching within the museum or school sector
Ability to work independently and in a team, be innovative and creative
Structured approach and ability to handle a heavy workload
