About Position/Job
The University of Hong Kong invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor in Anthropology at the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HKIHSS). This interdisciplinary role supports the Asian Religious Connections Research Cluster (ASIAR), which aims to rethink Eurocentric religious frameworks by centring Asian experiences and inter-regional connections. The appointee will work with Prof. David A. Palmer to lead research on the socio-cultural and religious dimensions of the Belt and Road Initiative, offering a platform for collaborative, comparative, and theory-driven research across Asia.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Anthropology or a closely related field
- Research experience in Global China, Belt and Road, or Southeast Asia
- Excellent research record with relevant postdoctoral experience or publications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interdisciplinary collaboration
- Leadership skills in managing research teams
- Experience preparing grant applications
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead research on religion and culture in Asia
- Develop ASIAR’s agenda on Belt and Road religious networks
- Supervise postdocs and research assistants
- Contribute to grant writing and project development
- Organise academic conferences and activities
- Optional participation in teaching
