Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master’s or PhD in Archaeology, Geoarchaeology, Geography, Digital Humanities, Ancient History, or a related field
  • Proven GIS, geospatial and 3D data skills
  • Valid driver’s licence throughout the employment period
  • Field experience in archaeological excavation and remote sensing
  • English fluency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Iberian pottery classification
  • Knowledge of QField, total stations, drones, and geophysical tools
  • Experience with lab-based artefact processing
  • WebGIS development and open data management

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage archaeological field campaigns in Portugal
  • Organise excavation logistics, accommodation, and transportation
  • Conduct geospatial analysis using GIS, LiDAR, and remote sensing
  • Mentor students and early-career researchers during fieldwork
  • Manage project data, reporting, and webGIS platform development
  • Collect and process field and legacy data for comparative analysis
  • Ensure compliance with project data confidentiality and storage
