About the Position

Understanding Dangerous Volcanic Transitions’. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in volcanic petrology or related geoscience field
  • Experience in field-based research of eruptive deposits
  • Familiarity with microanalytical techniques (SEM, electron microprobe, XCT)
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary teamwork

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in research impact or public/stakeholder engagement
  • Record of publishing academic papers and technical reports
  • Background in project management or international scientific collaboration

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field sampling and micro-petrological analysis of Eastern Caribbean volcanic deposits
  • Use textural and geochemical methods to assess conduit processes and eruption dynamics
  • Collaborate across disciplines to integrate petrological, geophysical, and historical data
  • Develop and maintain knowledge exchange with observatories and regional partners
  • Help coordinate meetings, stakeholder events, and project communications
  • Maintain an open-access sample inventory as a project legacy
