About the Program
The Department of Marine Sciences at the University of Gothenburg is inviting applications for a fully-funded doctoral position in oceanography, with a focus on understanding fine-scale ocean and atmospheric dynamics in the Southern Ocean. This research aims to address global climate uncertainties by investigating air-sea heat and CO₂ exchange. The position is embedded within the Polar Gliders Research Group and offers a dynamic international research environment with access to cutting-edge observational data, including from the SWOT and PACE satellites and autonomous platforms like Seagliders. Fieldwork on expeditions to the Southern Ocean and Agulhas Cape Basin is expected. Supervised by Dr Marcel du Plessis and Prof Sebastiaan Swart, the PhD student will work collaboratively on major national and international projects. This is an exceptional opportunity for motivated candidates eager to contribute to climate science through advanced oceanographic research.
