About the Program
Leiden University’s Faculty of Archaeology invites applications for a fully funded PhD position focused on Burial and Inequality in Late Prehistoric Cyprus. This unique project, part of the ERC-funded Inequal Cyprus project, explores how burial practices reflect and consolidate social inequalities from 4000 to 1700 BCE. As a PhD candidate, you will analyse grave types, burial rituals, and associated artefacts to understand shifts in social structures during the Chalcolithic to Middle Bronze Age periods. This position offers a stimulating interdisciplinary environment, close collaboration with leading scholars, and opportunities for fieldwork in Cyprus and beyond. It is ideal for candidates passionate about prehistoric archaeology, social dynamics, and material culture, who are eager to contribute to innovative research in an internationally recognised institute.
