The Research Fellow (RICHeS Scientist) position at Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) offers an exciting opportunity to join a leading institution known for its pioneering work in archaeological and heritage science. Based in the School of Natural and Built Environment, the successful candidate will join the dynamic RICHeS Heritage Science team in Archaeology and Palaeoecology. The role focuses on advancing research and providing access to heritage science, collaborating closely with partners and external stakeholders.
A key focus will be on materials characterisation, including isotope geochemistry, chemical and elemental analysis, and developing mass spectrometry techniques within the RICHeS programme. The Research Fellow will contribute across two main areas: radiocarbon dating and isotope geochemistry, and the detailed analysis of materials and elements. In addition to conducting innovative research, the postholder will supervise technical analyses, support facility management, and engage in outreach activities. This is an ideal role for an ambitious researcher eager to make a significant impact in heritage science.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Materials Characterisation
- Strong expertise in materials characterisation research
- Technical skills in chemical and elemental analysis, isotope geochemistry, and/or mass spectrometry
- Postdoctoral research experience in archaeological or heritage science
- Proven publication record in international journals
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working collaboratively within research teams
- Track record of high-level independent or team-led research outcomes
- Ability to supervise technical analyses and support laboratory management
