Postdoctoral Fellowship in Rare Earth Metal Extraction – IIT Hyderabad, India – Apply by 07 August 2025

About the Position

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow under the CLEANZ Centre of Excellence (CoE). The project focuses on rare earth element (REE) extraction and recovery from secondary sources such as fly ash, red mud, and coal. The fellowship is for one year, extendable based on performance through a review process. Supervised by Dr Ashok Kamaraj, this position targets the development of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 4/5 solutions in extractive metallurgy and sustainable resource recovery. The fellow will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to produce scalable technologies, scientific publications, and potential IP outcomes. This is a full-time, on-site position at IIT Hyderabad, offering access to advanced facilities and real-world impact in critical material research.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Alternatively, PhD with MSc in Chemistry/Environmental Science with proven research in metal extraction/recycling.
  • At least one Scopus-indexed publication.
  • Provisional PhD certificate accepted.
  • Strong academic record and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral experience.
  • Expertise in REE extraction from secondary sources.
  • Hands-on experience with TGA/DSC, TEM, SEM-EDS, XRD, and other analytical tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop research outcomes with TRL 4/5 level.
  • Conduct experimental work in hydro & pyro metallurgical labs.
  • Prepare reports, articles, and manage lab operations.
  • Collaborate with project partners and funding agencies.
  • Contribute to patent/IP generation and scalable technologies.
