About the Position
The Department of Archaeology at the University of Cambridge is inviting applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Zooarchaeology, with a particular focus on human and animal relations in prehistory. The role is set to begin on 1 January 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Archaeology or a closely related field
- Research excellence with publications and projects
- Experience in teaching archaeology and archaeological science
- Track record of securing external research funding
- Willingness to contribute to departmental and university service
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in designing and delivering specialist courses
- Engagement in international research collaborations
- Background in managing lab facilities and reference collections
- Strong interest in the role of archaeology in current environmental and social challenges
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent and collaborative research in zooarchaeology
- Design and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Supervise students and contribute to curriculum development
- Manage and curate relevant reference collections and lab resources
- Contribute to departmental strategy and interdisciplinary initiatives
- Collaborate with other university departments and the Cambridge Archaeological Unit
