About Position/Job

The University of Groningen invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Measuring Critical Language and Multimodal Awareness (CLMA) Proficiency as part of the research project Critical language and multimodal awareness: a key competency for future-oriented graduates. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop innovative assessment tools that evaluate both educators’ and students’ proficiency in critical language and multimodal awareness. The project explores how language and visual communication shape thought and behavior, and integrates evidence-informed educational interventions into Dutch higher education. The PhD candidate will collaborate closely with the CLCG research team, contribute to teaching, attend international conferences, and produce a cumulative doctoral dissertation over four and a half years. Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Research Master’s or Master’s degree in any related field

  • Willingness to conduct fieldwork and engage in interdisciplinary approaches
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in educational assessment tool development
  • Knowledge of AI-assisted measurement methods
  • Prior engagement with pedagogical research projects

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop tools to measure CLMA proficiency for educators and students
  • Conduct integrative literature reviews and empirical research
  • Collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative data
