About the Position
Rutgers University–New Brunswick is inviting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Art History, specialising in Global Ancient Art, Architecture, and Material Culture. The role focuses on the study of the ancient world from a global perspective, encompassing Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. The chronological scope ranges from the Bronze Age (ca. 3000–1200 BCE) up to 400–600 CE, and for pre-Columbian art, up to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Candidates are expected to emphasise cultural exchange, transregional interaction, mobility, and diaspora, while contributing to the department’s teaching and research strengths. The successful applicant will also engage with interdisciplinary initiatives in cultural heritage, architectural studies, and museum and curatorial studies, fostering collaboration across the university.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Art History or a related field
- Strong research profile in Global Ancient Art and Material Culture
- Commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research
- Record of publications in peer-reviewed outlets
- Interest in contributing to cultural heritage and curatorial studies
Key Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Art History
- Supervise student research and mentor graduate students
- Maintain an active research programme in Global Ancient Art and Material Culture
- Contribute to departmental initiatives in CHAPS (Cultural Heritage and Preservation Studies), architectural studies, and museum/curatorial studies
- Participate in collaborative projects across the School of Arts and Sciences
