About the Position

The Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) invites applications for an 18-month full-time postdoctoral position in medieval history with the QuaDiHum research team. This role is part of the HagioQuant project, funded by the ARC, which adopts a global quantitative approach to medieval Latin hagiography, analysing a corpus of over 4,000 texts. The postdoctoral researcher will specialise in hagiography, focusing on processing, interpreting, and studying the results obtained through quantitative methods, as well as digitising scientific editions of texts. The project combines historical scholarship with digital humanities, offering a stimulating environment for researchers proficient in medieval Latin, historiography, and digital analysis, contributing to international collaboration in medieval studies.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in medieval history defended after 01 January 2018
  • Strong knowledge of medieval Latin and hagiographic historiography
  • Proven research experience: publications, conferences, scientific events
  • Excellent command of French (written and spoken)
  • Comfort with computer tools and quantitative methods

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in digital humanities and text analysis
  • Ability to interpret quantitative results rather than develop computational methods
  • Flexibility to reside in Brussels or nearby
  • Collaborative and interdisciplinary research experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse results obtained via quantitative methods for medieval hagiography
  • Digitise scientific editions of hagiographic texts using team-provided tools
  • Participate in academic events and research dissemination
  • Collaborate with the QuaDiHum team on project outputs
  • Contribute to publications and knowledge sharing in international networks
