Fully Funded PhD in Palaeontology at Uppsala University, Sweden – Apply by 10 November 2025

About the Program

Uppsala University invites applications for a fully funded PhD position in Vertebrate Palaeontology at the Department of Organismal Biology. This position is part of an ERC Advanced Grant and a Wallenberg Scholarship project led by Professor Per Ahlberg, focusing on the evolution of early tetrapods—the first vertebrates to transition from water to land. The research involves the study of Devonian fossils, including the iconic Ichthyostega, using synchrotron microtomography and other cutting-edge imaging techniques. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic international environment, exploring the origins and anatomical evolution of land vertebrates, and contributing to high-impact publications and conferences.
