About Position/Job
The University of Calgary invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Digital Heritage within the Department of Anthropology & Archaeology, with an anticipated start date of 1 July 2026. This role seeks a scholar whose research and teaching engage critically with digital methods, ethics, and heritage practices across archaeology and social and cultural anthropology.
The successful candidate will contribute to the University of Calgary’s strategic plan Ahead of Tomorrow, particularly the Digital Worlds research focus, which explores data, technology, and human connection through transdisciplinary approaches. The department values community-engaged, collaborative, and public-facing research, with particular emphasis on ethical digital practice, equity, data governance, and culturally responsive heritage stewardship in Canada and internationally.

Research Area
- Digital heritage in archaeology and anthropology
- LiDAR, photogrammetry, remote sensing and GIS
- 3D reconstruction, visualisation, VR/AR/XR for heritage
- Digital field data capture and heritage informatics
- Collections digitisation and digital public archaeology
- Community memory, digital storytelling and co-created exhibits
- Digital data governance, ethics, and stewardship
- Indigenous data sovereignty frameworks (OCAP®, CARE, FAIR)
Eligibility & Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related discipline
- Strong research record and evidence of scholarly impact
- Teaching experience at the university level
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with community-based and collaborative research projects
- Evidence of transdisciplinary collaboration and programme building
- Familiarity with ethical, policy, and data sovereignty frameworks, including OCAP®, CARE, FAIR, and Local Contexts TK/BC Labels
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct innovative research in digital heritage
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in anthropology and archaeology
- Develop community-engaged and public-facing research initiatives
- Collaborate across disciplines, including GLAM partnerships
- Contribute to departmental, faculty, and university service
