The University of Évora, Portugal, is inviting applications for a Bachelor’s Degree Scholarship in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage. The scholarship is offered through the MISPA – Measuring the Societal Impact of Archaeological Heritage: Indicators for its Evaluation in Portugal project. Hosted by CIDEHUS – Interdisciplinary Center for History, Cultures and Societies, the four-month funded research scholarship supports archaeological heritage research and cultural heritage evaluation.
The scholarship is funded through the Institute for Advanced Research and Training (IIFA) under the IIFA.SEED_2026 initiative. The successful candidate will contribute to an interdisciplinary research project developing and validating a framework for evaluating the societal impact of archaeological heritage in Portugal, with particular emphasis on cultural participation, accessibility, heritage education, and sustainable development.
Working within CIDEHUS, the scholarship holder will contribute to research activities supporting archaeological heritage management, stakeholder engagement, heritage mapping, and science communication. The position combines academic research with practical project activities, including data collection, heritage evaluation, project coordination, and dissemination, while collaborating with museums, archaeological sites, and heritage organisations across Portugal.

Eligibility / Qualifications
To be eligible for this archaeology scholarship in Portugal, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Cultural Heritage.
- Academic, professional, or research experience in Cultural Heritage will be considered an advantage.
- Previous experience organising scientific events will be considered an advantage.
- Experience in science communication, dissemination, or community outreach activities will be considered an advantage.
- Meet the eligibility requirements established under the Portuguese Research Scholarship Regulations.
- Comply with the applicable enrolment requirements for eligible study programmes or non-degree courses, where required under the scholarship regulations.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the MISPA project by undertaking the following activities:
- Conduct literature reviews examining the societal impact of cultural and archaeological heritage within the European context.
- Map archaeology museums, archaeological sites, archaeological projects, and stakeholder organisations across Portugal while identifying examples of good practice.
- Assist in designing surveys and interview guides for professionals working within museums and archaeological heritage sectors.
- Support the identification of indicators and evaluation methods related to cultural participation, heritage accessibility, community engagement, heritage education, cultural tourism, and sustainable development.
- Contribute to project management activities, including internal documentation, stakeholder meetings, and the organisation of focus groups.
- Support research dissemination through scientific publications, website content, social media communication, partner engagement, and project events.

Selection Process

- Academic Qualifications (40%) – Assessment of the final classification obtained in the Bachelor’s degree.
- Professional Experience (30%) – Evaluation of relevant professional experience, particularly within Cultural Heritage and related activities.
- Profile Suitability (30%) – Assessment of experience relevant to the position, including scientific event organisation, science communication, dissemination, and community outreach.
Where considered necessary by the Selection Committee, the committee may invite shortlisted candidates to an interview to determine the final ranking in the event of tied scores.
