About the Position
The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) invites applications for a funded Early Career Researcher position in paleoclimate modelling within the Earth System Analysis Department in Potsdam, Germany. This opportunity focuses on global change, ancient climate systems, and sustainable development research. Moreover, the project contributes to international initiatives exploring Earth’s early atmosphere and climate evolution.
The successful candidate will join the Past and Future Earth (PATH) research group. They will design and analyse simulations using Earth-system models to study the Paleoproterozoic climate. Additionally, they will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, linking model outputs with geological proxy data and advancing high-impact scientific publications. Access to advanced modelling tools and strong mentorship supports impactful research outcomes.
Applicants must hold a Master’s or PhD in physics, meteorology, geosciences, or related disciplines. Experience in climate modelling, Linux systems, and scientific programming is advantageous. Furthermore, strong analytical thinking, teamwork, and excellent academic writing skills are essential for success.
This is a full-time research position for 24 months (postdoctoral) or 36 months (PhD), starting as soon as possible. It offers a competitive salary under the German public pay scale TV-L E13.
