The University of Groningen invites applications for a Lecturer in Art History position in the Netherlands. This faculty opportunity is based within the Art History & Material Culture Chair Group and involves teaching, curriculum development, and student supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching across the BA History of Art, Architecture and Landscape and MA Art History programmes. The role includes supporting curriculum development and helping deliver inclusive and environmentally engaged approaches to visual and cultural heritage education.
In addition to teaching duties, the lecturer will supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s thesis projects and participate in departmental meetings and teaching-related administrative activities. The appointment is based within the Art History & Material Culture Chair Group, which focuses on objects, material culture, visual analysis, and contemporary approaches to the study of art. Eligibility/Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
- PhD in Art History or completion expected within six months
- University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) obtained or in progress
- Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching practices
- Experience working with digital learning environments
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
- Knowledge of Dutch is desirable
- Ability to work independently within an academic setting
- Capacity to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams
- Experience engaging with diverse and international student communities
- Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach undergraduate courses in History of Art, Architecture and Landscape
- Teach postgraduate courses within the MA Art History programme
- Contribute to curriculum development and programme enhancement
- Supervise Bachelor’s thesis projects
- Supervise Master’s thesis projects
- Participate in departmental administration and academic meetings
