About Position/Job

The School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME) at the University of Oxford invites applications for a one-year position as Departmental Lecturer in Visual, Material and Museum Anthropology. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to two of Oxford’s prestigious postgraduate programmes — the MSc and MPhil in Visual, Material and Museum Anthropology (VMMA). The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic teacher with strong academic grounding and a passion for engaging with the latest debates in visual, material and museum anthropology. The position offers a chance to work closely with the Pitt Rivers Museum and contribute to shaping the next generation of anthropologists in a highly interdisciplinary and research-driven environment.

Eligibility & Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Doctorate in Anthropology or a closely related field
  • Demonstrable teaching experience at postgraduate level
  • Broad knowledge in visual, material and/or museum anthropology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supervising dissertations and conducting tutorials
  • Familiarity with research-led teaching
  • Ability to contribute to seminar series and interdisciplinary academic discussions

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lectures, tutorials, and research methods classes
  • Supervise MSc and MPhil dissertations
  • Undertake assessment and examination duties
  • Organise and contribute to the Pitt Rivers Museum/VMMA seminar series
  • Participate in departmental administration and curriculum development
