Postdoctoral Research Associate in Global Seismology – University of Oxford, UK | Apply by 20 May 2026

About the Position

The University of Oxford invites applications for a funded Postdoctoral Research Associate in Global Seismology position in Earth Sciences at the Department of Earth Sciences, Oxford, UK. This exciting research opportunity focuses on mantle transition zone imaging, seismic wave analysis, and geophysical inversion techniques, contributing to advanced global seismology research and Earth system understanding.

In addition, the successful candidates will join the DEEPSCAPE group and contribute to the PRISM-MTZ project funded by NERC. They will work on seismic datasets including surface-wave overtones and body-wave precursors, while applying BG-SOLA inversion methods. Moreover, they will compute sensitivity kernels and develop finite-frequency seismic methodologies for high-resolution mantle imaging.

Applicants must hold a PhD or be near completion in seismology or a closely related geoscience field. Strong expertise in seismic data analysis, inversion methods, and computational geophysics is essential. Furthermore, experience with research coding tools such as Python or equivalent numerical platforms, along with publication experience and interdisciplinary collaboration, is highly desirable for this role.

This is a full-time, fixed-term postdoctoral position for 30 months, starting between October 2026 and January 2027. The role offers competitive funding/salary with Oxford University Weighting, and provides opportunities for international collaboration, conference participation, and high-impact publications within a globally recognised research environment.
