About the Position
Queen’s University Belfast invites applications for a funded Postdoctoral (Postdoc) Research Fellow position in palaeoecology and environmental archaeology, based in Belfast, UK. This interdisciplinary project, Landscapes of Catastrophe, investigates the ecological, biological, and social contexts of the Great Irish Famine, contributing to international research in palaeoenvironmental reconstruction and archaeological science.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a leading research environment, undertaking independent research using multi-proxy palaeoecological methods. These include pollen, plant macrofossils, XRF, isotopic and tephra analysis. Moreover, access to advanced facilities such as the 14CHRONO Centre ensures high-impact outputs and strong professional development.
Applicants must hold a PhD in palaeoecology or a closely related discipline and demonstrate strong expertise in peat and soil sequence analysis. Furthermore, experience in Bayesian age–depth modelling, radiocarbon dating, and interdisciplinary collaboration is essential. Candidates with skills in metagenomics, biomarkers, or emerging analytical techniques are especially encouraged.
