About the Position

A fully funded 4-year PhD position is available in the Human Genetic and Cultural Evolution group at the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies, University of Zurich (UZH), Switzerland. This interdisciplinary research group explores the complex relationship between genetic variation and cultural practices, focusing on how evolutionary forces shape human genetic and linguistic diversity over time.

The project is part of the National Centre of Competence in Research (NCCR) “Evolving Language”, offering outstanding collaboration opportunities and access to cutting-edge infrastructure. The successful candidate will join an international and diverse academic community and will be enrolled in the PhD Program in Evolutionary Biology at UZH.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Research experience in population genomics or bioinformatics
  • Familiarity with large dataset analysis and modelling
  • Strong academic track record
  • Willingness to participate in sample collection (e.g., in Africa)
  • Knowledge of relevant tools and programming (R, Python, etc.)
