PhD Position in Language Contact and Flemish Sign Language at Ghent University, Belgium

About the Program

Ghent University’s Department of Linguistics invites applications for a fully-funded PhD position in the FWO-Vlaanderen funded project “Changing Signs & Signs of Change”, focusing on language change in Flemish Sign Language (VGT). The doctoral researcher will investigate how contact with spoken Dutch and related sign languages like LSFB shapes linguistic variation and change in VGT. This unique project explores the intersection of language contact, variation, and sociolinguistic change within minority, visual-gestural languages. The selected candidate will join the Multiples Research Group, work under expert supervision, and be part of a dynamic and inclusive academic community. The position offers full salary funding, travel and presentation opportunities, and strong academic support.
